About Us – The Speech and Language Clinic
My name is Frances O’Brien, and I would like to take a little time to tell you about myself and my work experience.
I have a Master’s Degree in Speech & Language Therapy and a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. I graduated from the University of Limerick in 2005 with a First Class Honour Degree.
My work experience includes eight years in the area of Early Intervention where I worked as a member of a multi-disciplinary team. I have worked with children with a wide range of communication difficulties, including children with special needs e.g. Autistic Spectrum Disorder & Down Syndrome.
Throughout my career, I have undertaken additional specialised training to enhance the communication needs of children with special needs including the following:
- Lamh (Irish Sign Language)
- PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System)
- Nuffield Apraxia Programme
- Sensory Integration
- Michael Palin stammering intervention
- Hanen Language Development Programmes
I have a special interest in promoting language development in very young children, including adopted children who are integrating into the Irish Culture. I decided to set up the Speech and Language Clinic to promote my passion for what I do and I hope you get great value from my service.
I provide therapy in the speech and language clinic, in client’s homes, and in participating local schools. Saturday appointments are now available !
Staff training in pre-schools/schools is also available for professionals who may wish to increase their knowledge base & skills to work with children who have Special Needs.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have in relation to speech and language, and I will try to get back to you as soon as possible.
I also plan to keep updating this site with useful information & resources for parents so they can feel confidant building their child’s communication skills in the home environment.
