About Us – The Speech and Language Clinic

My name is Frances O’Brien, and I would like to take a little time to tell you about myself and my work experience.

I have a Master’s Degree in Speech & Language Therapy and a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. I graduated from the University of Limerick in 2005 with a First Class Honour Degree.

My work experience includes eight years in the area of  Early Intervention where I worked as a member of a multi-disciplinary team. I have worked with children with a wide range of communication difficulties, including children with special needs e.g. Autistic Spectrum Disorder & Down Syndrome.

Throughout my career, I have undertaken additional specialised training to enhance the communication needs of children with special needs including the following:

I have a special interest in promoting language development in very young children, including adopted children who are integrating into the Irish Culture. I decided to set up the Speech and Language Clinic to promote my passion for what I do and I hope you get great value from my service.

I provide therapy in the speech and language clinic, in client’s homes, and in participating local schools. Saturday appointments are now available !

Staff training in pre-schools/schools is also available for professionals who may wish to increase their knowledge base & skills to work with children who have Special Needs.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have in relation to speech and language, and I will try to get back to you as soon as possible.

I also plan to keep updating this site with useful information & resources for parents so they can feel confidant building their child’s communication skills in the home environment.

‘Having Speech Therapy in school is so convenient. It saves me time, energy, and money. I don’t have to travel for the appointment. Frances does half hour sessions to keep the cost down. The school and home are coordinated in implementing the therapy programme. Frances is adaptive, imaginative, and thorough. Her goals are clear and realistic. I would just like to say that I found the service to be very beneficial. Frances was more than helpful with information about the resources available to my son. My son found Frances to be a lovely person, in his words “she’s cool”.I emailed Frances on short notice to get an assessment done and she was more than willing to help me out. Frances was very kind to my son made him feel very at ease and also made me feel at ease. I would recommend her services to anyone.
